Hello 3rd and 4th graders!

We're getting closer and closer to Summer holidays!

Things are still uncertain and I know things might be different this Summer than other years. But! The weather will be hot and it will be nice and sunny!

Canciones | Pruebas del Profesorado

What are some things that you are looking forward to in the holidays?

In the comments list some things you are going to do during the Summer!
And that you hope to do. These can be big and small

For example:
This Summer I don't know if I will go home to California, but I know that I will see my friends and have fun with them. I hope I can go to the beach! I am going to go on hikes in the mountains, I will go on runs, read lots of books, and I am also going to do some studying.

Opposites

Hello students!
Today we're going to practice a bit with some antonyms.

Antonyms are words that have opposite, or contrasting meanings
For example: light and dark; big and small.

In the image below, fill in the missing pairs of words for each sentence.
In the comments, write what you think are the correct answers! Also, write a few pairs of opposites that you think of! In addition, if you want an extra challenge, write sentences using these opposites.

Zombies Don't Eat Veggies!

Happy Monday young readers!

Today I would like you to read along and watch the video of "Zombies Don't Eat Veggies!"

This book is fun and and funny, and has some Spanish words too! Because the family in the story speak both Spanish and English.

In the comments below: Summarize the story in English.
In the end, the reader says "Don't forget to be authentic", what do you think that means?
Did you like the story? Why?

Don't forget to put together your time capsule and send a picture of you with it to Englishassistantseuropa@gmail.com if you would like me to add it to the blog :).

You can staple the booklet at the top lefthand corner, or three across the left-hand side.   Remember you can always go back to the Time Capsule posts and add in any that you missed before  stapling it together.

In the comments, write what you added to your last page, and if you're happy with how your time capsule ended up!

You can email a picture of you with your finished Time Capsule to englishassistantseuropa@gmail.com and I will add it to the blog.

Clouds!

Happy Monday young scientists!

Today I want to talk about CLOUDS! We see them outside - but what are they??

In the comments write what kinds of clouds you can see today outside!

And also one or more fact that you learned about clouds (in your own words)

Do you understand what they are?
What are clouds made of?

Clouds are made up of tiny droplets or frozen crystals of water.
How do clouds form?

Most clouds form as warm air rises in the atmosphere and cools down.
All air contains some water vapor and warm air can hold more water vapor than cold air.
As warm air cools the water vapor turns into tiny droplets of water or ice.
As more and more air cools down, more droplets form and they eventually become a cloud.
Wow!

Cloud Levels

Clouds are often described by the level or elevation where they form. There are high, middle, and low level clouds.

Types of Clouds

Meteorologists combine cloud characteristics and levels to get the ten main cloud types:
  • High cloud - cirrus, cirrocumulus, cirrostratus
  • Middle cloud - altostratus, altocumulus, nimbostratus
  • Low cloud - stratus, stratocumulus
  • Vertical - cumulus, cumulonimbus

1. Cirrus - Cirrus clouds are high level clouds that are thin and wispy. They appear during good weather.

4. Altostratus - Medium level clouds that form a dark gray covering. Usually they are a sign of rain.

5. Altocumulus - Middle level clouds that are small, white, and puffy.

6. Nimbostratus - These are thick, dark gray middle level to low level clouds. They usually bring rain or snow.

7. Stratus - Stratus clouds are low level clouds that are flat and tend to cover much of the sky. They are gray in color and may produce light rain or drizzle.

9. Cumulus - Cumulus clouds are low to mid-level clouds. They are big, white, puffy, and beautiful clouds. They usually mean good weather unless they grow really tall and turn into cumulonimbus clouds.

10. Cumulonimbus - Cumulonimbus clouds are very tall clouds that span all the way from low level to high level. They can cause violent thunderstorms with heavy rain, hail, and even tornadoes.

Interesting Facts about Clouds
  • A cloud that forms on the ground is called fog.
  • Even though clouds float in the air, a single cumulus cloud can weigh hundreds of tons.
  • Other planets with atmospheres have clouds including Venus, Jupiter, and Saturn.

Weekend Activities

Hello and Happy Friday!

I hope you all have a great weekend with some sunshine and fun!
Don't forget to wear sunblock :)

Today I'd like you to write in the comments one or more activities you will do this weekend and what you are going to wear (you can invent!)

For example:

I am going to the park with my sister and I am going to wear a dress and sandals.
I am going to the pool and I'm going to wear my swimsuit and sunglasses!

For more practice with the verb "to wear" and clothing vocabulary from 3rd grade you can check out this review video:

Get Dressed!

Hello and happy Wednesday!

It sure is getting hot outside!

Watch the silly video above, and then think about getting dressed.

Here are the lyrics so you can sing along!:
You don't wanna forget Before headin' out You gotta get dressed And your cozy jammies don't count, no, no, Put on some clothes, come on let's go, Get dressed! Get dressed, come on, get dressed It's time to get dressed Say yes to gettin' dressed 'cause, It's time to get dressed No, you can't wear a shirt That's wearing last week's dessert (ewww) So pick a different shirt, And don't put it on backwards Or your friends won't know which way you're facin' Pick your favorite underwear And whatever else you wanna wear, And come on! Get dressed, come on, get dressed It's time to get dressed Say yes to gettin' dressed 'cause, It's time to get dressed And if your outfit's not your favorite Well, come tomorrow, you can change it So don't you stress, that it's time... It's time to get dressed!

In the comments below write one thing you see the robots wearing, and what you are wearing today!

For example: One of the robots wears a flower costume, and today I am wearing a blue and white striped shirt, denim shorts, and white sandals.

Before getting started, put on some comfortable clothes. Then, get a spot ready on the floor- it can be on carpet or hard floor. You can put down a mat or a towel to make it more comfy.

Then, watch the video and follow along!

In the comments, tell me if you enjoyed the yoga, and what your favorite poses were!

Time Capsule: Letter to your Parents or guardians

Hello young writers!

Today we are going to write a letter to our parents or guardians to put in our time capsule.
Last time we wrote a letter to ourselves.
Now we will write to the person who is taking care of us, whoever that might be: your mom and dad, your grandma and grandpa, or an aunt or uncle.

-You can write something that you are thankful for (Thank you for taking care of me, cooking for me, giving me hugs)

-Something that you enjoy doing together (I really enjoy riding bikes with you, watching movies, going to the park, baking cookies)
or a good memory that you have from this time together at home.

-And what you are looking forward to doing with them once the quarantine is over!

As always when writing letter in English, you can start with:

              Dear (Mom, Dad, Grandma),

and end with:

              Love, (your name)

In the comments, write one thing that you wrote in the letter.

Hand Art

 Hello artists!!

Today we're going to do a fun art activity continuing to work on something we already know how to do - drawing our hand!

First: Carefully do a light tracing of your hand. Make it a really nice one!

It shouldn't be too dark because you don't want it to stand out too much. Like this!

Next, using markers or colored pencils, draw straight lines across, but anytime you touch your hand go up a bit - pay close attention to the fingers!!
This creates the effect of depth - it will look 3d!

Keep doing the same thing with any colors you want - you can pick just 4 or 5 like I did here or any and all the colors you want!
Don't worry if you mess up - just keep going!

And soon you'll see the effect! It looks like your hand is really there - adding depth and dimension to your flat image!

In the comments write what colors you used and how the drawing turned out!

As always you can email me a picture at Englishassistantseuropa@gmail.com in .jpg format if you want to share it :).

Here's another example I did with markers:
You can tell that the colors are brighter and darker. I used lots of different colors for this one.

Time Capsule: My Routine

Hello young writers!

We're almost finished with our Time Capsule!!

Today we're going to make a page about our routine in quarantine.

It would be great if you could draw the clock and write the time. You can add more than I have in this example!

In the comments below write three examples from your current daily routine (you can pick one day).

For example: On Fridays I wake up at 9:30 in the morning, and I eat breakfast with my parents. I have class with my teacher online at 11:30. At 2:00 in the afternoon I eat lunch with my family.

Notice that I use the present simple tense because I am talking about something that I do regularly!

As always you can email me your page if you want to share it at englishassistantseuropa@gmail.com

Harry the Dirty Dog

Hey Kiddos!
I hope you had a good weekend! :)

Today we're going to take a quick break from our time capsule and read a book along with actress Betty White.

The title of the book is Harry the Dirty Dog.

In the comments after watching I want you to choose to answer one or more of the following:

How would you summarize this story?

What are the two happy endings (one is after the book is finished)?

What did you think of the story?

Do you have any stories to tell about a pet of yours?

Time Capsule: Parent/Guardian Interviews

Hey Kiddos!  Happy Friday!

Today and this weekend we're going to do an interview with our parent (or any adult that is taking care of you!).

We are going to ask them questions and write their answers in English.  You can translate the questions and ask them in Spanish (or any language they are comfortable in) and then write their answers in English.

Or! You can also do two versions - one in your native language and one in English.

You can add questions or ask only the ones that you think are interesting.

In the comments write one question you asked and what the answer was! If you want, you can email me a picture at englishassistantseuropa@gmail.com.

Happy Wednesday everyone!

Today we're going to trace the handprints of the people we live with!
