In the UK, Easter is one of the major Christian festivals of the year.
It happens at a different time each year. It can happen on any Sunday between March 22nd and April 25th.
The Friday before Easter Sunday (Good Friday) and the Monday after (Easter Monday) are bank holidays in the UK.
Over Easter, schools in the UK close for two weeks.
The Easter Egg:
Exchanging and eating Easter eggs is a popular tradition in the UK. Real eggs (in most cases, chicken eggs) were used before they were replaced with chocolate eggs. The eggs were hard-boiled and decorated with various colours and patterns. The bright colours represented spring and light.
An older, more traditional game is where real eggs are rolled down a hill. The winner is the owner of the egg that stays uncracked the longest.
Nowadays, people give each other eggs made of chocolate, usually hollow and filled with sweets. British children hunt for chocolate Easter eggs hidden around their home and garden by the Easter bunny.
The Easter Bunny:
In the UK, children believe that if they are good, the Easter bunny (rabbit) will leave chocolate eggs for them.
Hot Cross Buns:
These small, lightly sweet buns usually contain raisins, currants and chopped, candied fruit.
Before baking, a cross is slashed in the top of the bun. After baking, sugar icing is used to fill the cross.

Hi Leah,
ResponderEliminarIn my opinion the easter in the UK is quite different than in Spain. That is because in Spain start at Sunday palms and in Uk is not a certain date to start easter. In easter of Spain we don't eat chocolate eggs but we eat lamb and we celebrate that Jesus is alive again

ResponderEliminarI think that the same between Easter in UK and Easter in Spain is that both are Christian festivals, in both there are school holidays and here in Spain in some places like Cataluña it´s typical to make a special chocolate eggs called ¨Monas de Pascua".The difference between Easter in UK and Easter in Spain is that it isn´t an Easter bunny in Spain ,the typical food that we eat in this time are the¨torrijas", that are made of bread, milk, eggs mainly. And another difference is that in Spain in this period in almost every places there are processions, they are a kind of religious parades.
